Energy and Sustainability Analyst

The Energy and Sustainability Analyst supports HIDI’s design and analytical activities through specialized knowledge in hourly energy modeling, sustainable design, and economic analysis.


Business Development

  • Work to develop strong, ongoing relationships with clients

General Management

  • Keep Senior Sustainability Specialist and Manager appraised of activities
  • Lead by example, following proper procedures. Participate in training courses as requested
  • Provide insightful and enthusiastic assistance to other staff
  • Schedule workload appropriately, maximizing productive time
  • Train and motivate other staff
  • Work enthusiastically with the Group to accomplish common objectives


  • Attend coordination meetings
  • Report to Group Lead with any project related quality, speed or scheduling issues
  • Review systems to ensure they are in accordance with OBC, MNECB, ASHRAE and/or other relevant Codes and Standards
  • Provide energy modeling and analysis support for design load calculations for new and existing buildings
  • Utilize performance simulation tools to analyze energy efficiency measures for both new and existing buildings
  • Provide technical analysis and support during the design and construction phases
  • Provide a range of energy efficiency and energy resource planning activities
  • Source and update energy efficiency incentive programs on an ongoing basis
  • Be an active member of the integrated design team
  • Act as a 3rd party reviewer for incentive programs such as LEED, Better Buildings Partnership, etc.
  • Answer and direct calls and respond to telephone queries
  • Prepare both internal and external correspondence
  • Load Calculations – take-offs and internal load calculations
  • Energy modelling
  • Comply with company Design Standard and CAD Standards
  • Coordinate work with other disciplines including Architectural and Structural
  • ASHRAE 62.1 calculations
  • Coordinate incentive calculations

Skills & Qualifications

  • Engineering Degree or diploma
  • 1-2 years of experience in the Engineering Consulting industry
  • Strong working knowledge of AutoCAD
  • Basic understanding of Building Science and Physics
  • Basic understanding of Take-off and zoning elements of modelling
  • Experience with reading and coordinating Mechanical, Electrical, Structural and Architectural drawings
  • Ability to work independently
  • Strong interest in sustainable development
  • Detail oriented with excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Experience with Windows and general computer skills
  • Familiar with OBC, MNECB, ASHRAE and other relevant Codes and Standards
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills
  • Superior problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Experience with IESVE, eQUEST, EE4, Carrier HAP, DOE2.1e/2.2, RETScreen software programs
  • Fundamental understanding of mechanical and electrical systems, and HVAC equipment
  • Working knowledge of energy efficiency incentive programs
  • Working knowledge of new “green” building technologies and processes
  • Familiar with LEED certification process
