Energy and Sustainability Manager

The Energy and Sustainability Manager is responsible for the day to day management of the group.

Responsibilities

Business Development

  • Oversee the creation of Proposals and Fee Letters as assigned
  • Approve all Proposals and Fee Letters in the Division
  • Develop relationships with clients that foster ongoing revenue generation, goodwill and business
  • Explore opportunities for value added services and new markets. Identify and pursue new market opportunities
  • Attend various conferences or presentations and to be seen as a thought leader in the industry

General Management

  • Ensure that all direct reports are scheduling their workload appropriately, maximizing productive time and allowing all employees to meet expectations
  • Provide insightful and enthusiastic leadership, paying attention to employee morale
  • Lead the performance management process including annual reviews
  • Create, review, and approve procedures
  • Work with the heads of all functional areas to solve inter-departmental problems
  • Interview, train, motivate, and supervise all direct reports. Participate in strategy sessions
  • Review energy models, incentive submissions and reports prepared by direct reports

Production

  • Attend, participate in and/or lead various meetings
  • Act as the first level of escalation for client and staff issues within the Division
  • Ensure compliance with company procedures and design standards including OBC, ASHRAE and MNECB as required
  • Ensure that the Division is staying on track and on schedule
  • Facilitate coordination and communication within the firm to allow for smooth day-to-day operations and improvement activities
  • Hold weekly one-on-one meetings with all direct reports
  • Inform direct reports of any upcoming scheduling issues
  • Technical resource for all engineering questions in the Division
  • Work with Business Development to ensure effective and informed communication to prospective clients
  • Undertake peer reviews
  • Liaise with Integrated Services to identify possible Integrated Services initiatives
  • Act as Project Manager as required
  • Forecast staffing requirements
  • Lead the creation of the Division’s contribution to the company fiscal budget with the Principal in-charge of the group
  • Monitor actual performance against the estimate and take action as required to bring work back on schedule, working with direct reports
  • Prepare and review regular production reports
  • Resource for all project management questions in the Division
  • Coordinate work with other disciplines including Architectural and Structural
  • Review systems to ensure they are in accordance with OBC, MNECB, ASHRAE and/or other relevant Codes and Standards
  • Provide energy modeling and analysis support for design load calculations for new and existing buildings
  • Utilize performance simulation tools to analyze energy efficiency measures for both new and existing buildings
  • Provide technical analysis and support during the design and construction phases
  • Provide a range of energy efficiency and energy resource planning activities
  • Source and update energy efficiency incentive programs on an ongoing basis
  • Be an active member of the integrated design team
  • Act as a 3rd party reviewer for incentive programs such as LEED, Better Buildings Partnership, etc.
  • Answer and direct calls and respond to telephone queries
  • Prepare both internal and external correspondence

Skills & Qualifications

  • Engineering Degree an asset but it is not required.
  • Professional Designation (ASHRAE, CaGBC)
  • At least 10 years’ experience in the Building Commissioning industry
  • At least 3 years’ experience in a senior management role
  • Experience with IESVE , eQUEST, EE4, Carrier HAP, RETScreen software programs
  • Knowledge of energy efficiency incentive programs, new “green” building technologies and processes.
  • Excellent knowledge with LEED certification process
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills
  • Able to represent the company at social and networking functions
  • Excellent presentation skills – comfortable speaking in client/project meetings
  • Excellent people management skills
  • Ability to think independently
  • Systems oriented – able to review, revise and create process changes within the Division
  • Proven team leadership capabilities
  • Superior problem-solving and analytical skills
  • A demonstrated ability to work under pressure
  • Ability to coach and mentor direct reports
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
