Mechanical Group Lead

The Intermediate / Senior Base Building Mechanical Designer is responsible for the design of mechanical systems including HVAC, plumbing, drainage and fire protection


Business Development

General Management

  • Lead by example, following proper procedures
  • Participate in training courses as requested
  • Provide insightful and enthusiastic assistance to other staff
  • Schedule workload appropriately, maximizing productive time
  • Train and motivate other staff
  • Work enthusiastically with the Group to accomplish common objectives


  • Attend coordination meetings
  • Check drawings for quality control using checklist
  • Comply with company Design Standards and CAD Standards
  • Coordinate work with other disciplines including Electrical, Architectural and Structural
  • Create working drawings with AutoCAD
  • Design systems in accordance with OBC, NFPA, ASHRAE and/or other relevant Codes and Standards
  • Layout HVAC, plumbing and drainage and fire protection systems
  • Maintain design files in an organized and up-to-date fashion in accordance with company Project Management Standards
  • Monitor CAD production
  • Perform site audits to confirm existing conditions
  • Prepare CCN and SI as required
  • Prepare detailed equipment room layouts including sections
  • Prepare detailed riser diagrams
  • Provide periodic site reviews and attend site meetings as required during construction
  • Report to Group Leader any project related quality, speed or scheduling issues
  • Review and comment on shop drawing submittals
  • Size piping, ductwork, diffusers, grilles, etc.

Skills & Qualifications

  • At least 5 years of experience in the Engineering Consulting industry
  • Engineering Technologist
  • Experience with reading and coordinating Mechanical, Electrical, Structural and Architectural drawings
  • Familiar with OBC, NFPA, ASHRAE and other relevant Codes and Standards
  • Strong working knowledge of AutoCAD
  • Ability to think independently
  • Detail oriented
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Experience with Windows and general computer skills
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills
  • Superior problem-solving and analytical skills
