The Ajax Public Library is an architectural beacon constructed in 2002 that is located in Ajax, Ontario.
The community facility was over lit and difficult to maintain, driving the library to upgrade its lighting to suit patrons and staff impeded by the harsh visual environment.
Alula Lighting Design worked in collaboration with Architects Luc Bouliane to improve the quality of the visual environment and enhance energy efficiency while maintaining the unique architectural aesthetic, which features 15’ ceilings and regressed architectural slots. The new design was modelled using illumination software and developed to preserve the architectural integrity, project a visually continuous environment, minimize glare and reduce the original connected load by 33%. Community and staff now enjoy a soft, visually comfortable environment that maximizes the library experience.
