Toronto Eaton Centre Infrastructure Upgrade and Food Court Renovation was a joint effort between The HIDI Group and Queen’s Quay Architects International. The 1,000,000 ft² space spans more than two Toronto city blocks and is valued at $120 Million. The HIDI Group provided mechanical and electrical design for this project. The scope of the work included the expansion of retail space, additional restaurants, a replacement of the mall ceiling and all new raised services. All existing restaurants in the south food court were replaced by one full service restaurant with scullery and new seating areas. The existing washrooms were demolished to make way for new expanded washrooms and the modernization of facilities including the connection to Enwave district cooling and heating systems to provide the additional cooling and heating required for the Mall. New energy efficient lighting was installed throughout the mall. Challenges The big challenged faced during this project was that the Toronto Eaton Centre had to remain open and operational during this period of upgrades and renovation. A multi-phased plan was developed and executed over a period of 24 months.
