RBC WaterPark Place and Cisco Canada Headquarters were awarded Canadian Green Building Council (CaGBC) Awards at the 2016 Toronto Chapter Gala and Awards Program. The CaGBC Innovation Awards recognize projects that push the envelope and perform beyond expectations in terms of sustainable best practices, fueling advancement in the green building market. This year’s event took place on October 13th, 2016 at Arcadian Court, featuring a presentation by keynote speaker David Miller, President and CEO of World Wildlife Fund – Canada.
RBC WaterPark Place – recipient of the Innovation Award for New Construction Core and Shell – is the first commercial tower in Toronto to achieve LEED Platinum Core and Shell Certification, and continues to raise the bar for development in Canada. The HIDI Group (HIDI) provided Mechanical Consulting for this project developed by Oxford Properties Group and designed by WZMH Architects. Features include heat reclamation on ventilation units, a dedicated outdoor air system, energy-efficient lighting, low-flow fixtures for 35% water reduction usage, low emitting building materials, deep lake water cooling, and a 7,500 square metre green roof. RBC WaterPark Place has also achieved an Energy Star rating of 100.
For Innovation in achieving LEED (Gold) Commercial Interiors Certification, the award goes to Cisco Canada Headquarters. As one of the network equipment giant’s nine Innovation Centres worldwide, HIDI provided Mechanical, Electrical, Lighting, and Commissioning Services for this hub focused on digital transformation and disruption via technology, collaboration, and enhanced productivity. Lauded as ‘one of the smartest and greenest office spaces in the world’, this CaGBC Innovation Award recognizes extraordinary sustainability and IT-based building technologies. Thanks to Cisco’s ‘Internet of Things’ mandate, the space boasts a series of ‘firsts’, including the first largescale commercial installation of Power of Ethernet-enabled luminaires in North America, effectively reducing the Lighting Power Density to 52.6% below ASHRAE 90.1 2007 allowances.
