At The HIDI Group, we have always placed importance on ownership and transparency – as a 100% employee owned company, we enable our team to play a vital part in the firm’s direction, decision-making, and sharing of our founding principles and values.
The Lethbridge Community Arts Centre is a unique facility that has established a new benchmark for interdisciplinary art centres in the region, and is a model in sustainable design. Featuring radiant floor heating and cooling, orientation-specific external shading, and a demand control ventilation system that responds to variable occupancy spaces, CASA offers arts spaces for music rehearsal and dance, an art gallery, and 2-D and 3-D art classrooms.
Designed by Ferrari Westwood Babits Architects in conjunction with Nyhoff Architecture, the building is designed to LEED Silver standards, but is not being submitted for certification. Its mechanical systems include a high efficiency condensing boiler plant with variable flow pumps, high efficiency domestic hot water heaters, and a demand control ventilation system that responds to the variable occupancy spaces, saving ventilation heating energy. Natural ventilation is provided in the common areas and automated through the building automation system. In addition, the plumbing system is designed for water conservation with low flow fixtures, and all storm water is collected on-site for re-use by the irrigation system.
The HIDI Group provided mechanical, plumbing and energy modelling for this innovative community cultural centre.
