DELTA TORONTO SOUTHCORE FINANCIAL CENTRE

Delta Hotel Toronto is located in the heart of Toronto’s new southcore district, this 429,000 ft² hotel is part of the 2-tower Southcore Financial Centre designed by Page + Steele and IBI Architects. The HIDI Group provided both mechanical and plumbing design for the new southcore hotel. Part of this project required heightened level of coordination with the Southcore Financial Centre office tower’s team which was being constructed at the same time.

 

The mechanical and plumping design for the Delta Toronto, had to be able to service the 46 floor tower, restaurant located on the ground floor, meeting rooms, office space, ballrooms and swimming pool located in the podium as well as the main kitchen, laundry and other back of house services located on P2/P3 and it’s 3 levels of parking connection to the adjacent office building. Cooling for the building came from its connecting to Enwave which provided the hotel with chilled water.

 

The Delta Toronto won the Award of Excellence at the 2015 Toronto Urban Design Awards.

 

Challenges

When designing systems for a tower that is to connect to another, it can definitely pose a challenge but when you add that the other tower is being constructed at the same time by another team that’s when things get interesting.

The HIDI team had to work very closely with the office tower design and construction team to make sure all services to the hotel, such as Enwave, Sanitary and storm drainage and domestic water were aligned.

The hotel is connected to the Enwave energy system which provides it with its chilled water supply.
