At The HIDI Group, we have always placed importance on ownership and transparency – as a 100% employee owned company, we enable our team to play a vital part in the firm’s direction, decision-making, and sharing of our founding principles and values.
HRCx provided LEED Fundamental and Enhanced Commissioning services for the new 40-storey EY Tower in Toronto. Our team worked together with WZMH Architects and Oxford Properties Group to commission the 1 million ft² tower, which houses a corporate office space, retail units, and below-grade parking in a new structure, while maintaining the property’s historic façade. The finished building contains a connection to the Enwave District Energy system.
The scope covered LEED commissioned systems include heating, ventilation, air conditioning, domestic hot water systems, lighting and lighting control systems as well as all non-LEED commissioned systems include generators, electrical power service, communication systems, fire alarm systems, and security systems. In addition to the LEED commissioning services provided, HRCx performed a whole building integrated “Pull the Plug” test on the EY Tower to grade the performance of critical systems and system power up times.
The EY Tower is certified LEED Platinum.
Challenges
Where most downtown Toronto buildings have either a cooling plant or are connected to Enwave, the EY Tower has both a cooling plant and is also connected to Enwave with an additional chiller plant. This posed a challenge as to how to make sure the system is running at its utmost efficiency.
