The HIDI Group provided mechanical and plumbing design for the design of a temporary onsite Pandemic Response Unit located on site at Joseph Brant Hospital. HRCx a division of The HIDI Group provided commissioning. The development of a modular treatment unit enabled the hospital to increase capacity to support the surge of COVID19 patients who required constant monitoring or oxygen and at the same time freeing up vital acute care space in there facilities for patients with more severe needs. The temporary Pandemic Response Unit completed in April 2020 was a collaboration with community-based health care providers, the City of Burlington and Halton Region.

The 8250 ft² Response Unit houses a 93-bed unit dedicated to patients with mild to moderate symptoms of the virus and provides relief to the hospitals overwhelmed resources.

The scope of the project required the development the concept designs for the mechanical systems, respecting timeline and availability of equipment and materials. Reviewing existing drawings and site and preparing mechanical design documentation for procurement and construction. Reviewing equipment selection with suppliers and adjusted design to accommodate any changes. The team liaised with authorities and code consultant to ensure code compliance and will perform site reviews of construction.
