The Edison stands on the site of the Old PanCanadian Tower. A $12 million dollar project required the demolition and reconstruction of its ground and plus 15 podium. The commercial building includes an exterior plaza, retail and restaurant spaces as well as new CACF room on the main level.

The HIDI Group provided electrical, security and lighting design for the 27,000ft² property. Our scope included the demolition of outdated lighting and electrical systems, the relocation of the CACF room and main fire alarm control panel to the main floor. Security provided updated CCTV system which was modified to suit the new tower. Lighting and controls were developed to suit and compliment the new railroad motif.

Innovation Factors

Due to large volume of space, 3D modelling was utilized to effectively develop the CCTV camera placement to ensure optimal placement for best possible field of views.  The lighting was extensively modelled to develop an effective and outstanding lighting system which creates a historical feel and enhance the Edison’s architectural features.  Addressable lighting control systems were introduced to the outdated building to provide superior lighting controls to the lighting systems for color control, daylight sensing and dimming.

Sustainability Initiatives

The extensive use of LED lighting products and addressable lighting controls were implemented to provide a high level of energy efficiency through LED sources as well as through enhanced lighting controls (dimming and daylight harvesting).
