The New Waterloo Regional Consolidated Courthouse merges the Superior Court of Justice and the Ontario Court of Justice into one facility which were in separate buildings in the past. The new $379 million dollar facility stands at roughly 420,000 ft² and includes 30 courtrooms, 15 settlement rooms, a back of house area and technical support spaces. The HIDI Group provided mechanical and plumbing for the NORR Limited designed courthouse. The new courthouse was built in partnership with EllisDon. The building includes 3 mechanical rooms, one below grade and the others located on the 3rd and 7th floor penthouse. There are three chillers and three cooling towers supplying 605 tons of cooling, three 3700 MBH hot water boilers, one 1674 MBH steam boiler, and eleven air handling units in total. Due to strict sound requirements specialized fans were selected for the AHUs to emit the lowest sound emission. The project was designed to achieve LEED Silver, yet ultimately achieved LEED NC Gold certification subsequent to a year of operation.
