The HIDI Group provided mechanical, plumbing and electrical engineering services for the new Yorkdale ‘Dine on 3’ Food Court. The space was designed within a vacant third floor and includes four restaurants, fifteen food court tenants, public seating areas and washrooms. Given the limited space available in the existing structure, certain equipment and distribution systems were placed on the roof. It was also essential to keep the mall’s existing tenants fully operational throughout the construction of the new area.

The new ‘Food Collection’ was designed to minimize environmental impact. The food court will have china dish service with a centralized scullery. The use of reusable tableware will reduce waste by 85%, and all organic waste will be composted. In addition, restrooms are equipped with hands-free faucets and low-flow toilets to conserve water.

Challenges

The major challenge we faced during the construction phase of the Dine 3 at the Yorkdale Mall was that the mall continued to be operational which meant that all current existing systems had to function for everyday use with out interruption.
